What is this Flower?

Something sprung up in the garden the other day and I have not got a clue what flower this may be – I’m taking a guess and saying it may be Dame Edna’s favourite the gladioli – can anyone help?

  1. That is Gladiolus gandavensis. common names; Gladioli, Gladiol, Gladiola derived from the Latin “Gladius” which means small sword, like the shape of its leaves. Originally from South Africa and spread in Asia since 2000 years includes Indonesia. In 1730 began to enter the continent of Europe and growing in the Netherlands. Plant gladiolus which includes subclasses Monocotyledoneae, fibrous roots, and the plant is formed contractile roots that grow well during the formation of the new corms. The advantage of cut gladiolus flowers are long-lasting freshness about 5-10 days and
can bloom all the time. ……Lovely flowers in great photos ! and thanks for sharing.muhammads

  2. Aw and Goosey thought he was going to be the first to identify your Gladiolus – lovely flower. Goosey is consoling himself (head under his wing) by lurking under the Amaryllis in the sitting room.
